The Hired Hand & Idaho Transfer @ Aquarium Drunkard

"But if The Hired Hand was a flop that took decades before it was properly reappraised as a minor masterpiece, Idaho Transfer continues to barely exist at all. The same can be said for Fonda’s last directorial effort, Wanda Nevada. While Langhorne continued to get gigs scoring early Jonathan Demme movies like Fighting Mad and Melvin and Howard, it wasn’t until 1979 that Fonda took his third and final strike at the plate, this time tapping composer Ken Lauber for the score. Given that Fonda’s co-star and highly inappropriate romantic interest in the picture is a 13-year-old Brooke Shields, it’s unlikely that Wanda Nevada is going to resurface any time soon. But that’s okay. In Fonda’s case, his first movie is good enough to enshrine his status as having directed one of the best revisionist westerns of the 70s."
